4. Nick Perry, Outside Linebacker

2018 salary cap hit: $10,750,000

Nick Perry has had an interesting career. Drafted in the first round in 2012, he’s only started in 39 games during his career. Perry finally broke out in 2016, racking up 11 sacks in a contract year. The following offseason he enjoyed a huge payday, signing a five-year, $59 million deal, averaging $11.8 million per year. He’ll be the fifth-highest-paid player on the Packers in 2018.

One of the biggest knocks against Perry is his ability to stay healthy. During the 2017 season, he battled foot, hand, ankle and shoulder injuries. Another criticism is his disappearance against high-level competition. Many of Perry’s sacks have come against less-capable opponents, which shows he may not be up to the task when the moments are brightest.

Entering his seventh season, Perry will need to step up his game to live up to his latest contract. He just turned 28-years-old in April, which falls within the typical prime-years of a player’s career. If Perry can stay healthy for most of 2018, expect him to have another season with double-digit sacks.
