Green Bay Packers: Which draft pick could have most impact?
By Joe Kipp
The Green Bay Packers wrapped up a successful 2018 draft, selecting eleven players in total. Looking ahead, which one could have the greatest impact in year one?
The Green Bay Packers‘ front office endured one of the busiest drafts of any team, entering the contest with twelve picks and using eleven. They garnered prodigious value with the selection of cornerback Jaire Alexander in the first round, after gaining a 2019 first rounder from the New Orleans Saints along the way. They also selected one of the steals of the draft in cornerback Josh Jackson. Predicted to go in the mid to late-first round, Jackson slipped to the Packers at pick 45. Brian Gutekunst didn’t hesitate.
The rest of the selections are as follows:
Oren Burks, LB, Vanderbilt
J’Mon Moore, WR, Missouri
Cole Madison, OL, Washington State
JK Scott, P, Alabama
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, South Florida
Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame
James Looney, DE, California
Hunter Bradley, LS, Mississippi State
Kendall Donnerson, EDGE, Southeast Missouri State
The Packers will have plenty of time to evaluate these prospects during OTAs (offseason team activities) in late May and mandatory mini-camp in mid-June. Training camp begins in late July, with preseason in mid-August. By the middle of preseason, we should have a good idea who the Packers like most.
But we’re not in the business of waiting. Based on what we know now, which player could have the greatest impact in their rookie season? Obviously, the two cornerbacks will see plenty of action. Oren Burks is an incredible athlete, scoring in the 90th percentile or higher in most testing categories. And all three wide receivers have a very good chance of making the 2018 roster.
Taking all that into consideration, here are two players – one for offense and defense – who could make the greatest impact in the 2018 season.
