3. Ian Thomas, Tight End, Indiana

Ian Thomas may not be the best tight end in the draft, but he’s certainly a value in the 4th-5th round. Despite signing Jimmy Graham, Thomas would be the perfect candidate for an in-line blocking tight end, something the Packers desperately need. He’s also very competent in the passing game.

Thomas is 6-foot-4, 260 lbs, and has the skills to be a starter in a couple seasons. He has the speed needed for certain routes (4.74 forty yard dash) with decent hands and effective blocking abilities. He could improve his overall aggression in the run game and lacks certain routes in his repertoire. Some say he’s a slow learner.

That’s okay though since Thomas is anything but a finished product. Many tight ends take at least three years to develop as a full-time starter in the NFL. With Jimmy Graham signing a three-year contract in March, Thomas would add a nice insurance policy if the Packers decide to part ways a year-or-two early.
