Green Bay Packers Draft: 5 possible day two selections in 2018 NFL Draft
By Joe Kipp
4. Connor Williams
The Packers lost Bryan Bulaga to an ACL tear late in 2017, and have another question mark at starting right guard heading into the current season. Connor Williams would be a great addition to fill either need.
At 6-foot-5 and nearly 300 lbs, Williams would most certainly need to put on weight if he were to play offensive tackle. He probably would’ve been a top 10 pick in last year’s draft, though. After a sub-par, injury-riddled 2017 season, he quickly slipped down many people’s draft boards – apparently enough to make him fall to day two.
The combine was Williams’ to lose, so he posted an outstanding 40-yard dash (5.05 seconds) and vertical jump (34 inches), which makes any offensive lineman stand out. This showcased his athletic profile, which is what many thought highly of in the first place.
Williams would likely compete with Justin McCray in training camp for starting right guard, and might even be given the opportunity to play right tackle. Don’t be surprised if the Packers trade up to get Williams if he begins to slip into the late 30s.
