Pro: Extra first rounder

After trading down from 14 to 27 with the Saints originally (which the Saints used on Marcus Davenport), the Packers ended up getting not only a fifth-round pick Saturday, but the Saints first round pick in 2019.

The Packers also lose their third round pick this year in the trade back up with Seattle, but that is a minor price to pay when getting a second first round pick next year.

With the Saints as well, it’s an interesting case to pay attention to. They had a very strong year last year, but the previous half-decade was a mess, leading many to speculate about the future of Brees and Sean Payton.

If Brees were to fall behind Father Time and Payton’s system became stale, or if Davenport busts, that Packers could have a high pick in 2019. That’s a nice risk for them to take.
