After trading back, and then back up again, the Green Bay Packers got the first piece to rebuild their secondary with Jaire Alexander from Louisville.

It has been a wild and crazy night for new general manager Brian Gutekunst in his first graft as the top dog of the Green Bay Packers. After trading down with the New Orleans Saints, much to the consternation of Packer nation and getting a 2019 first round pick, they moved back up with the Seattle Seahawks to take cornerback Jaire Alexander from Lousiville.

In the process, Green Bay acquired a 2019 first round pick from the Saints and a fifth rounder this year. The 2019 first could become a wild card for Green Bay if the Saints slip from last season. Quarterback Drew Brees will be 39-years-old after all which means he could hit the cliff real quick and real hard.

The Packers then gave up the 27th pick they acquired from the Saints as well as their third and sixth-round selections in order to acquire the 18th pick from the Seahawks to select Alexander.

There are numerous pros and cons to this first pick, the trades that led to it, and for the future of the Green Bay Packers. So let’s take a look. For more about Alexander, check out Dairyland Express’s recap of the pick
