Green Bay Packers: Five biggest NFL Draft needs
By Josh McPeak
2. More help in the secondary
Green Bay essentially blew up a majority of their secondary this offseason. A move many had been calling for. Randall and Burnett both moved on to the AFC North. Arguably, the best corner and safety on the team.
Williams is coming back to Lambeau where he and Davon House will have a reunion shutting down opposing receivers. Kevin King should be a great revamp if he can stay healthy for the duration of the season. And many expect Josh Jones to step in and fill the void left by Burnett.
This position seemed far worse from a distance. Upon further review, given everyone stays primarily healthy, it could already be an improved unit, as it stands. Ha Ha Clinton -ix has to return to his former self. Jones must have a great sophomore campaign and King must stay on the field.
Josh Hawkins and Kentrell Brice could be very undervalued prospects already on the roster.
However, to not add more talent to this pool very early in the draft, would be a huge risk.
Derwin James is a popular name amongst many mock drafts if he falls to 14. The Florida State safety possesses both size and speed. He has the ability to cover the tight end one-on-one while also being strong in the running game.
Joshua Jackson from the University of Iowa has boom or bust written all over him. The corner is often compared to Josh Norman. However, just as often, he is labeled as the biggest potential bust, due to his lack of seasons on the football field.
Jaire Alexander continues to climb in the latest mock drafts. Injury concerns from the Louisville corner had him projected originally as a day two prospect. After his outstanding combine performance, many scouts have him going to a team tonight.
With a dozen picks, the Packers could stop the bleeding altogether in the secondary.
