Green Bay Packers: 5 draft replacements for Morgan Burnett
With Morgan Burnett departing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Green Bay Packers need to find a replacement for him through the draft.
When Morgan Burnett signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Green Bay Packers not only lost a great player but an extension of the coaching staff on the field. Burnett served as the quarterback of the defense and was in charge of relaying play calls and getting everyone in proper formation. A presence that won’t be easy to replace.
For the last eight years, Burnett was one of the few mainstays in the Packers’ secondary. His versatility allowed him to be on the field for every situation. He could play deep, in the slot or even in the box as a linebacker.
Green Bay is undecided if they drafted Burnett’s replacement last year in second-rounder, Josh Jones. Jones mirrored his aggression around the line of scrimmage but failed to hold up in coverage.
Davon House and Tramon Williams returning will help the Packers avoid the communication breakdowns they suffered in 2017, but they are short-term solutions. The Packers have to start developing future leaders on the backend.
Let’s take a look at five safety targets who can help make the transition from the Morgan Burnett era as smooth as possible.
