Round 3, No. 76: M.J. Stewart, CB, North Carolina

The Packers finally address their cornerback situation in the third round with M.J. Stewart out of North Carolina. Although it’s not ideal to wait until the third round to draft a corner, it’s better late than never.

Stewart stands 5-foot-11 which isn’t tall, but isn’t short either. His 4.54 40-yard dash is also right in the average range which is another reason he’s not a sexy prospect.

In order to make up for his lack of elite height and speed, Stewart has to rely on physicality and playing bump-and-run. At 200 pounds, he can give a lot of wide receivers fits getting off the line of scrimmage.

He’s also a good run supporter from the outside which is something the Packers often look for. NFL.com compares him to Micah Hyde due to his flexibility to play multiple positions. Although Stewart won’t be a bad player, it’s not ideal to draft him as the teams problem-solver in the secondary.
