Round 2, No. 45: Connor Williams, OT, Texas

This would be a heck of a slip for Connor Williams, one of the top offensive tackles in this year’s class (which isn’t saying very much).

If Williams falls to No. 45, it’s probably because a number of other corners and edge rushers Green Bay’s interested in jumped ahead of him. This leaves the Packers in the unfortunate situation of drafting the best player available.

With Bryan Bulaga recovering from a torn ACL and struggling with injuries throughout most of his career and Jason Spriggs not living up to the second-round hype, the Packers are in need of some offensive tackle depth and possibly even a starter.

That’s where Williams steps in where he can be a versatile lineman. He played offensive tackle at Texas and could play there in the NFL as well if not at guard. NFL.com projects him to have a chance to become an NFL starter.

As you can see, the Packers were unable to grab an edge rusher or a cornerback with either of their first two picks. Most of it isn’t their fault, that’s just how the board played out. And without having to reach too far for a player of need they simply took the best man available.
