Round 5, No. 172: Quenton Meeks, CB, Stanford

A long, lanky corner who is built for press man on the perimeter, Meeks was a dependable part of David Shaw’s team for three seasons. Despite his production, however, Meeks drops in the draft due to his speed and agility concerns. According to some scouts, he may need to move to safety and is listed as such on some draft boards on FanSpeak, or as generic as a defensive back.

From Lance Zierlein:

"Meeks is a technically sound outside cornerback with good size and strength who will have to be protected by scheme and safety help. He understands how to play the position, but his lack of acceleration and makeup speed is a big concern. While Meeks has the size to disrupt from press, he’s unable to stay hip-to-hip on go routes and lacks desired closing burst for on-ball opportunities from off-man. Meeks has the instincts and tackling to make the move to safety if need be."

Meeks could be another guy like Hyde, who didn’t have the speed to last as a corner but finds his niche as a nickel back or safety. Much like Hyde, he is a willing tackler and was a playmaker during his time at Stanford with seven career interceptions. There’s also a lot to like about his intangibles and leadership on the field that will always be welcome in a Green Bay locker room.
