Round 5. No. 138: Alex Cappa, OT, Humboldt State

Smaller school linemen have been beneficial for the Packers in the past (TJ Lang comes immediately to mind) and Cappa could be the next. Much like Ali Marpet before him, Cappa parlayed a strong Senior Bowl into a Combine invite and could use that to vault himself into the Draft.

From Lance Zierlein:

"Cappa has the size, toughness and movement skills to push his way up the draft board with a strong week of Senior Bowl practices. Conversely, a poor week of practice could bury his stock as his level of competition hasn’t offered up challenges on tape to fall back on for scouts who like him. Cappa is a better run blocker than pass protector at this stage. Because of that, he could be targeted for a move to guard even though swing tackle is a reasonable fit for him as well."

From Matt Miller:

"Alex Cappa will have to answer questions about the level of the competition he faced at Humboldt State. As such, the California native is training with offensive line guru LeCharles Bentley in Arizona to continue developing. Cappa meets all of the size requirements of an NFL offensive tackle and has the mindset of an aggressive finisher. A move to guard may be on the docket for him, but there’s no doubt he’s worth a middle-round selection."

Miller even compares him to David Bakhtiari, which is extremely high praise for a small school guy. Cappa may end up having to be a guard but his length and athleticism will give him a shot at tackle over someone like Kyle Murphy with the potential to develop into a longterm swing tackle or the most recent college tackle to start at guard for the Packers.
