Round 7, No. 239: Daurice Fountain, WR, Northern Iowa

There is already known interest in Fountain as the team went and watched his Pro Day, and he didn’t disappoint. With a 42.5-inch vertical and a 4.46 40 time, he is every bit the athlete that his more highly regarded pass catching peers are.

The question for him is whether he can produce at the next level. He had games where he was almost invisible and wasn’t the go-to guy in the Missouri Valley until this past season. But as a Madison native, it would be quite the story for him to stay in-state and get a chance to make the Packers.

From Lance Zierlein:

"One-year wonder with the requisite height, weight, and speed numbers to interest teams looking for a plus athlete to develop. While Fountain should test well, his route running and ball skills aren’t where they need to be and the jump in competition will make that transition challenging. However, Fountain’s strong showing at the Shrine Game practices likely increased the number of teams who will target him on Day 3."

From Matt Miller:

"Electric pro day performance showed the athletic ability that we saw on film. Daurice Fountain’s most impressive trait is his personality and work ethic. He won’t wow you on film but says and does everything right in interviews. Loves to coach and be coached."

Next: Three draft replacements for Jordy Nelson

As a prospect, Fountain is a project for sure. He has Jeff Janis athleticism, but also needs a lot of polish before he sees the field. A swing for the fences out of the FCS, Fountain could be a dynamic third receiver in a few years or he could be bouncing around practice squads. That’s the risk you take with pick 239.
