3. Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame

Mike McGlinchey is rated as the 14th best prospect on Pro Football Focus’ updated 2018 Big Board, but that doesn’t mean the Packers should select him with their 14th overall pick.

When healthy (which seems like never), right tackle Bryan Bulaga is one of the best in the business. He can do it all and provides Aaron Rodgers with the protection he needs on the right side.

Unfortunately, he’s missed a boatload of games in his career, including 15 in the past three seasons. Until he’s fully recovered from the torn ACL he suffered in November, Green Bay will look to former first-round pick Jason Spriggs and Justin McCray to prove their worth at tackle. McCray may be a busy man though, as he’s set to contend for the starting right guard spot as well.

If the Packers use their top pick on McGlinchey, they’d be getting a guy who is the number one rated offensive tackle in this class, but has a plethora of question marks nonetheless. He’s not an elite player by any stretch of the imagination and is far from a sure thing.

If Brian Gutekunst goes with McGlinchey, he’d be the roster’s third offensive tackle selected in the first or second rounds and would officially signal he’s moving on from both Bulaga and Spriggs. Something I don’t think he should do quite yet.
