3. Marcus Davenport, DE, UT San Antonio

Marcus Davenport is a name that’s probably been most connected with the Packers at their 14th spot over the last few weeks.

He’s a defensive end out of the small school of UT San Antonio and has only impressed scouts more and more since the season ended. It began with a strong Senior Bowl and continued at the combine.

Davenport is a bit of a different player than Payne and would be able to provide a much-needed pass rush component. At 6-foot-6, he’s one of the better pass rushers in the draft and could play in the outside linebacker position as well.

Again, he obviously wouldn’t be able to directly help the Packers’ maligned secondary, but he could indirectly by putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks and limiting their opportunities to find an open receiver.

If there isn’t a cornerback available at 14, Davenport might be the next best thing.
