2. Jimmy Nelson won’t return to form.

Entering the season, Jimmy Nelson supported an ERA well above 4.0, but he proved he could hang with the best of them as the calendar continued to flip. He went 12-6 with a 3.49 ERA and one complete game before suffering a serious shoulder injury in September.

Sometimes, a labrum surgery, such as Nelson had, can be career-ending or force a player to be on the shelf for a long, long time. However, it appears Nelson is ahead of schedule and could return by June.

If that’s true, it could be a nice boost for a club who desperately needs pitching, pitching and more pitching.

Unfortunately, rushing things isn’t always the answer, especially for a guy who has had the limited amount of success like Nelson has. With less than one full season perfuming like an “ace” under his belt, the Brewers would be wise to play the long game and allow Nelson to fully regain strength in his shoulder.

I hope I’m wrong about this, as we all love ourselves some Nelson.
