Green Bay Packers fans can be excited about the performance of several key position groups this year.

Despite the Green Bay Packers week 2 loss to the Vikings, Aaron Rodgers sluggish start and backpedaling secondary, there are still many reasons to be excited about this years team. With an offense that has continued to sputter, these reasons for optimism lie with the defense.

Even though the 2016 season is in its early stages and our opinion of the Packers defense could be different after Sunday’s game against Detroit. There are three aspects of the team’s defense that have stood out thus far.

  1. Daniels and Company
  2. Middle Linebackers
  3. Team-Third and Ten

If one was to merely look at the unit’s statistics without watching the games, it would be easy to find the groups strength and weakness. After week 2, the Packers defense leads the entire league in fewest rushing yards allowed (39.0 YPG). Meanwhile, the passing defense ranks 19th (277 YPG) after facing two teams with average quarterbacks and wide receivers.

Accordingly, the three reasons to be excited about the 2016 defense does not include a reference to the secondary. Let’s hope this changes as the year goes on.
