2. One for Big Irv – Dec. 22, 2003

What Favre did the day after the passing of his father is truly remarkable. Playing on Monday Night Football, on the road, Favre played against the Oakland Raiders in a crucial game that had playoff implications. He did what his father, Irv, would have wanted him to do. Go out and play football and play well.

Favre exceeded expectations.

Favre passed for 399 yards and four touchdowns. Three hundred and eleven yards and those four touchdowns all came in the first half of the game.

Favre played his heart out for his dad and inspired his teammates in the process. Favre took his game to another level that night, but so did his teammates. Somehow, some of Favres passes were able to find the hands of his receivers when they probably shouldn’t have. This game seemed like a game Favre could do no wrong.  It’s one of those games that will live forever in infamy.

This game was no doubt, Favre’s greatest performance of his career. Packers defeated the Raiders 41-7. This particular game will go down as one of the most gutsy performances ever by an athlete.
