Francisco Rodriguez re-established himself as a premier closer in 2014, saving 44 games and making his first All-Star appearance since 2009.
That earned him a two-year, $13 million deal—the first multi-year deal he’s gotten from the Brewers, who have had him every year since 2011.
He’s 13-for-13 in save opportunities this season and has a 1.13 ERA and 0.792 WHIP in 24 innings.
The problem with Rodriguez is that he’s not getting a lot of work, because Milwaukee is behind so often, and he’s a 33-year-old veteran with a World Series ring, something that a contender could find attractive.
The Baltimore Orioles acquired him in 2013 as a setup man before he returned to the Brewers. But K-Rod is good, he’s cheap and he’s got 26 playoff appearances. Add that to the flexibility of him being able to close or set up and he could be a great value for a contender with prospects to deal.
