Round 4, Pick No. 129
Jake Ryan, OLB, Michigan
6-foot-2 3/8, 240 pounds
The Packers finally drafted a linebacker to start the third day of the draft, and while he is listed as an outside linebacker, Jake Ryan played both inside and outside backer while at Michigan.
As the Wolverines’ middle linebacker last season, Ryan led the team with 112 tackles and was the team’s defensive MVP. He had 14 tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception, three passes defensed and seven forced fumbles.
He was a two-year captain at Michigan and was also elected a captain at the East-West Shrine game
ESPN.com ranked Ryan as the 15th best at his position coming into the draft and he scored high on their scouting report for his intangibles, including his family’s football tradition.
His father, Tim Ryan, was a wide receiver at Wake Forest and his grandfather, Francis Sweeney, played defensive tackle at Xavier before playing in the Canadian Football League.
His brother, Connor Ryan, plays wide receiver at Ball State.
