2.) Kentucky’s frontcourt got even better
In last year’s game, Kentucky ran a much smaller lineup. They started three guards, and their frontcourt was nothing to marvel at. Kentucky lost starting forward Julius Randle to the NBA draft, forward Alex Poythress to a season-ending knee injury, and will be playing last year’s starting center Dakari Johnson in a much, much smaller role.
Why would Kentucky use last year’s Final Four starting center in such a limited role this time around? Because their frontcourt now is insanely better.
Kentucky will be starting 7-foot forward Willie Cauley-Stein, 6-foot-11 forward Karl-Anthony Towns, and 6-foot-10 forward Trey Lyles. All three players are pegged to be early to mid- first-round picks, and are the reason this year’s Kentucky team is undefeated.
The size and athleticism from this Kentucky front court is not only a totally different beast from last year’s game, but could be considered one of the scariest frontcourts you’re going to see this decade.
