Wisconsin Badgers To Open Battle 4 Atlantis With UAB

The Wisconsin Badgers headline a loaded bracket in the Battle 4 Atlantis preseason tournament in the Bahamas on Thanksgiving week and will open the event against UAB on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. Central.

The event features the Badgers, a Final Four team last season, along with Florida, which also reached the Final Four, and North Carolina—expected to be a top 10 team in 2014-15.

The bracket was revealed Tuesday.

The rest of the first round includes Butler against North Carolina, UCLA taking on Oklahoma and Florida battling Georgetown.

Wisconsin will play either Florida or Georgetown on Thanksgiving, either in a 2:30 p.m. Central semifinal with a win over the Blazers or an 8:30 p.m. consolation bracket game should they lose the opener.

The final day of the event is Friday, Nov. 28, with the championship scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Central on ESPN.

The Badgers were 30-8 a year ago and reached the Final Four for the first time since 2000 before dropping a heart-breaker to Kentucky in the national semifinals.

It was just the third 30-win season in program history for Wisconsin—all under coach Bo Ryan (30-6 in 2006-07, 31-5 in 2007-08). The Badgers have played in 16 consecutive NCAA tournaments.

UAB is coming off an 18-13 campaign and the Blazers have not played in the postseason since going to the NCAA tournament in 2011.

The Badgers and Blazers have never met.

Villanova won last year’s Battle 4 Atlantis with an 88-83 overtime win over Iowa in the championship game after upsetting then-No. 2 Kansas in the semifinals.
