Milwaukee Brewers Scratch Jimmy Nelson From Saturday Start

The Milwaukee Brewers said Friday they have scratched rookie right-hander Jimmy Nelson from his scheduled start Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

According to the team’s official Twitter account, it is due to a blister:

Kyle Lohse will now take the ball Saturday against the Cardinals and Matt Garza is lined up to go Sunday in the series finale in St. Louis.

Nelson is scheduled to start again against the San Francisco Giants at Miller Park on Tuesday.

Nelson is 1-2 in four starts for the Brewers with a 4.30 ERA and a 1.304 WHIP in 23 innings, with 22 strikeouts.

In his first start after being recalled from Triple-A Nashville last month, Nelson faced the Cardinals at Miller Park and was rocked for eight runs, six earned, in just 4.1 innings.

Lohse and Garza, meanwhile, are able to pitch on normal rest in St. Louis after Thursday’s off day.

Lohse is 11-5 with a 3.07 ERA and 1.098 WHIP in 22 starts and 146.2 innings this season, with 107 strikeouts. He has made one start against the Cards this season, taking a no-decision after working six innings and allowing three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts and a walk at Busch Stadium on April 29.

Garza, meanwhile, is 7-7 with a 3.74 ERA and 1.174 WHIP in 22 starts and 139.2 innings, striking out 100 batters. Garza has lost both starts against the Cardinals this season, allowing nine runs on 14 hits in 10 innings, walking five and fanning 10.
