NBA Rumors: Milwaukee Bucks Off Joel Embiid, Says Co-Owner

According to a report, Kansas center Joel Embiid is no longer in the draft night plans of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Bucks co-owner Mark Lasry, speaking at a joint Milwaukee Press Club/Rotary Club of Milwaukee event this morning, said that Embiid’s injury made the decision-making process easier:

Lasry will also be throwing out the first pitch at the Milwaukee Brewers game at Miller Park tonight as the team with the National League’s best record hosts the leaders of the National League East.

Embiid sustained a stress fracture in the navicular bone in his right foot and underwent surgery to repair the injury on Friday. He is expected to be out four to six months, making it unlikely he would go as high as No. 2 overall.

Still, it’s a bit of a surprise for Lasry to admit it publicly.

Embiid was thought to be all but a lock to go No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Cavaliers until the stress fracture was revealed.

Now the Cavaliers are said to be ready to take Duke forward Jabari Parker with the top pick, with the Bucks likely to take Kansas swingman Andrew Wiggins with the second overall choice.

CBSSports.com’s Ken Berger reported on the Parker rumor on Saturday.

If Cleveland does take Parker, it would be a disappointment to some (read: me), as I believe him to be much more ready to contribute right away than Wiggins, who is perceived to have more of the vaunted “upside” so many draftniks get all aflutter about.
